Frequently Asked Questions

Compatibility and Suitability

Are your wheels compatible with my groupset?

Our hubs are designed for Shimano/SRAM 9, 10 and 11 speed cassettes. There has also been a significant amount of testing done by others that has shown a Shimano/SRAM 11 speed cassette has the same spacing as Campagnolo 11 speed so will be compatible. Alternatively, we can fit a Campagnolo-specific freehub - just drop us a line.

For SRAM AXS 12 speed groupsets, an XDR freehub is required. If you need an XDR freehub, please include a comment with your order and we will fit it prior to shipping.

For Shimano 12 speed groupsets, the new cassette design is compatible with an 11 speed freehub.

What length valve do I need on my inner tube?

We recommend the following minimum valve lengths for our rim depths to ensure you can easily fit a pump head for inflation:

  • Paniagua (25mm rim): 40mm valve
  • Alta (35mm rim): 60mm valve
  • Ronde (35/39mm rim): 60mm valve
  • Grimpeur (40mm rim): 60mm valve
  • Strade (49/54mm rim): 80mm valve
  • Passista (56mm rim): 80mm valve
  • Chrono (77/86mm rim): 100mm total valve length. Note that you will likely need to use a valve extender here. We recommend using a fixed valve extender for a removable core (e.g. Continental) due to the diameter of the valve hole
  • Disc: 40mm valve

Are your disc brake wheels compatible with my frame's axle standard?

Our disc brake hubs will fit a 12mm thru-axle for both the front and rear wheels. If you're running either a 15mm thru-axle or a standard 9mm quick-release then conversion kits are available. Please get in touch before placing an order as there will be a 2-3 week lead time for other axle standards.

Do you offer track/fixie options?

Yes, we'd be more than happy to discuss this. All of our wheels can be adapted for track or fixie use. As a custom order there would be a 4-6 week lead time on this but please get in touch to discuss options.

What is the rider weight limit on Parcours wheels?

There isn't a hard and fast max weight that we'd rate the wheels at as it's largely dependent on the sort of riding you're doing. As you can imagine, a heavier rider on a smooth road isn't directly comparable to a heavier rider on rough "British-style" roads!

Saying that, with a 20 spoke front / 24 spoke rear lacing pattern (24/24 for our disc brake wheelsets), if you're over 90-95kg then we'd suggest looking at increasing the spoke count to make the wheel a little more robust. Get in touch to discuss the custom build options available.

Are Parcours wheels tubeless-compatible?

All Parcours wheels are designed and optimised for clincher tyres. The rims are also tubeless-ready with the appropriate kit. You'll need to change the rim tape (we recommend a 25mm tape to cover the internal rim channel, 30mm for the Ronde, Strade and Alta 650B) and use tubeless valves and tubeless tyres. We'd also recommend using a sealant of some sort.

Note that if you intend to run the Chrono rim tubeless you will likely need to use a valve extender to reach the recommended 100mm of total valve length. Please ensure that the valve extender is externally threaded so you can fit the locking nut to the outside of the rim to ensure an airtight seal.

Can I race Parcours wheels in a UCI sanctioned event?

Yes, we're pleased to say that the Grimpeur, Passista and Chrono wheelsets are all UCI-approved.

Parts and Servicing

What tyre should I use on my wheels?

We don't have a specific brand preference - we've tested with most commonly available tyre brands which all work well with our rims. We recommend a 25mm tyre width as this has been tested to show the best combination of aerodynamics and reduced rolling resistance.

The Ronde and Strade have been developed specifically with a 28mm tyre in mind, whilst the Alta and Alta 650B are best suited to a wider gravel tyre.

What tyre pressure is recommended?

The commonly quoted rule is “the wider the tyre, the lower the pressure”. It’s more complicated than that though, especially when you start to consider rider weight and road surface.

The ideal pressure will depend on rider weight and also the quality of the road surface you're riding on. As a guide, lower is usually better than higher, with most of our riders finding a good pressure between 50-85psi, depending on tyre width, wheel choice and whether the wheel is set up tubeless.

Please also be sure to check the maximum warranty tyre pressure for your wheelset.

What brake pads should I use?

Carbon fibre brake tracks require specialist brake pads. So make sure you use them! All our wheels ship with Parcours brake pads, spares can be ordered through our website.

We’ve also tested Parcours wheels with many commonly-found makes of carbon-specific brake pads and they all deliver excellent braking performance.

Whatever you do, never ever switch between alloy rims and carbon rims without changing your pads – all those tiny little shards of metal will make light work of your lovely carbon brake tracks otherwise.

Where can I buy spare parts for my wheel?

Any good local bike shop will stock replacement Sapim CX Ray spokes. Hub bearings are cartridge-design to allow easy servicing and are also readily available. If you need a replacement rim, get in touch and we’ll be able to help.

Troubleshooting

Why isn't my tyre seated correctly after fitting? There seems to be a strange "hop" around the wheel.

Not all of the tyre bead has seated correctly inside the rim. With a tubeless rim there is a small ridge at the edge of the rim that holds the tyre in place when running a tubeless setup. The tyre must be pushed outwards over this to sit correctly.

The easiest way to do this when using an inner tube is to keep inflating the tyres up to the maximum - up to 120-130psi. This should push the tyre outwards over the ridge and seat it correctly. You may hear a few “ping” or snap noises - this is perfectly normal. You can then let the pressure down to a more normal level.

My wheel is running out of true / a spoke has broken how can I have this repaired?

We’ve designed Parcours wheels to be easily serviceable at any decent local bike shop. We use external nipples for straightforward truing and Sapim CX Ray spokes that are quick and simple to replace. If you need any help or advice, just drop us a line.

Purchase Queries

Do you have any discount codes available?

We've pushed our pricing to be as affordable as possible for all riders, so we don't generally offer discounts on our wheels. If we do have an end of season or ex-demo sale, all available items will be listed on the website.

Can I purchase just the rims for my own wheel build project?

Of course – just get in touch and we’ll get talking.

Can I purchase a mixed depth wheelset?

Yes, absolutely - if you don't see the combination you're after listed on the website, just drop us a line and we can help you choose the right setup to ride on.

Can I purchase just a front or rear wheel?

Yes, not a problem. Please just get in touch and we can facilitate this for you.

Can you build wheels with different hub options?

We can offer DT Swiss hubs on all of our wheels. Please contact us for pricing and lead times/availability. For other hub brands, we would likely need to refer you to our custom wheelbuild partner.

Can I use Cycle to Work vouchers to pay for a wheelset?

We aren't currently available to offer a Cycle to Work scheme as the majority of schemes require physical premises to qualify. As an online retailer we don't currently fulfil this requirement.

Should you wish to purchase through your Local Bike Shop, please ask them to contact us directly.
